REGULATORY ENGINEERING
Regulatory Engineering
Regulatory Engineering is the specialist regulatory arm of Structural Engineering Solutions, dedicated exclusively to supporting Building Consent Authorities (BCAs) across New Zealand.
With over a decade of combined experience working within local government, we understand the unique challenges councils face in applying the New Zealand Building Code, meeting statutory timeframes, and ensuring the reasonable grounds test is satisfied for issuing consents. Our services include detailed structural reviews covering everything from R1 residential projects to complex C3 commercial developments as well as technical training for BCA staff and advisory support to assist councils in navigating complex applications with confidence.
We partner with councils throughout New Zealand to provide:
Independent structural reviews for applications requiring specialist input, including high-risk or complex projects.
Targeted training and mentoring for building officers, helping build internal capability around structural assessments and Code compliance (particularly B1 and B2).
Expert guidance on documentation quality, compliance pathways, and supporting the reasonable grounds test under the Building Act.
Whether acting as an extension of your in-house team or providing specialist input on an as-needed basis, we deliver clear, practical advice to help BCAs make robust, defensible decisions.
Regulatory Engineering enables councils to process consents efficiently, consistently, and with full confidence in Code compliance supporting safe buildings and a high-performing regulatory system across New Zealand.
